Doordarshan is built for people who like their sites to feel deliberate: a little terminal, a little notebook, and just enough ornament to stay warm.

What the theme tries to optimize for

readable long-form text

lightweight navigation

a homepage that works with only a few config values

room for a small wiki or digital-garden section

export function navBrand(value: string): string {
 return value.trim() || "~/dd";
}

You can keep the defaults, override individual templates, or treat the whole thing as a starting point for a deeply personal site.

Customizing the theme

There are three common ways to adapt the theme:

1. Update
extra.doordarshan.*

Start with config. The theme exposes identity, navigation, homepage links, contact details, analytics, and feature flags through namespaced keys.

2. Override templates selectively

Zola lets you shadow individual files in your site root.

templates/base.html

templates/page.html

static/js/site.js

3. Keep site-only behavior outside the theme

If something is clearly brand-specific, load it from
extra.doordarshan.scripts.additional
instead of baking it into the theme.

A good personal site does not need constant motion. It needs a point of view.

That is why the theme leans on typography, spacing, and rhythm more than animation. The homepage is compact. Lists are plainspoken. Colors are few. The result is something that still feels personal without becoming heavy.

Static sites can still feel inhabited. The trick is giving them texture, not noise.

Content topology

Doordarshan keeps its assumptions intentionally small.

blog/_index.md
defines the primary post archive.

pages/_index.md
defines the long-form or wiki-style area.

contact.md
and
search.md
can stay thin because the theme owns their default templates.

The theme prefers section source paths over hard-coded URLs, so you can move the blog or pages roots without rewriting every template.
